The Backyard home
When a young couple approached us for the renovation of a 3BHK apartment they had purchased in resale, we began the design process. However, due to the pandemic, the project was repeatedly postponed. During this time, the couple rented a lovely ground-floor apartment in a high-rise. Coincidentally, the US-based owner of this rented apartment decided to sell it, and as luck would have it, the couple’s previous deal fell through. Their rented house of three years serendipitously became their own home.
The main attraction of the new apartment was a small, private garden - a surprising find in a high-rise building in a busy suburb of Bangalore. This backyard became the main inspiration for the design approach for this project. The client brief remained the same: to keep it simple, minimal, and earthy.
The design approach for this project was heavily influenced by the natural beauty of the backyard and the surrounding greenery. We incorporated this natural feel into the design that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces. We used natural materials such as rattan, brick tiles, light-colored wood, and green accents to create a calming, inviting space that is bohemian yet minimal.
